Quick Catch-up: Lighthouse and Storybook
Posted on October 21, 2025
We’d like to welcome our new subscribers to the blog and newsletter by offering a bit of context. The newsletter is specifically about accessibility: tips, tricks, events, regulatory info. The blog is a longer-form platform where we certainly get into accessibility, but often as it pertains to the Lighthouse design system.

In a nutshell, Lighthouse is a WordPress-based set of pre-designed components and layout templates. These are designed to maintain a common look and feel among Delaware state agency websites, but also to help our agencies maintain accessibility compliance with a lot of built-in guardrails.
Beyond the pages we’ve dedicated here on the GIC site, the best way to familiarize yourself with Lighthouse is through our Lighthouse Storybook site.
According to its website, Storybook is “a frontend workshop for building UI components and pages in isolation. Thousands of teams use it for UI development, testing, and documentation. It’s open source and free.”

Storybook has element of both a resource library and a user manual, together in one convenient spot! It contains code snippets for developers along with user guidance and best practice examples.
